Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Iowa City
This facility houses emergency communications for Johnson County, the City of Iowa City, City of Coralville and City of North Liberty. The building has masonry block walls, a brick veneer and precast exterior, as well as precast decking for the roof. We are pursuing LEED certification for this project so we used recycled materials when possible and diverted waste to recycle centers instead of landfills. We used certified lumber and recycled, pervious concrete. The building utilizes a geothermal system and has a storm water detention area. The new facility has office space, a dispatch area, storage and a large community room. This building was designed with security in mind. It has a vehicle trap bio-retention cell and protective limestone boulders around the building.
