Iowa Medical and Classification Center, Oakdale
1991 Project: Two dormitory cell units were built, adding 220 beds. Project also included a kitchen and dining hall renovation. New control tower was also added to allow inmates access to gardening areas.
2003-2007 Projects:
Phase I - Foundation Package: Constructed 500 ft. underground concrete tunnel, used to transport materials and personnel between prison buildings.
Phase II - Powerhouse Building Package: 31,000 sq. ft. pre-engineered metal building containing a state-of-the-art steam generating plant, two 600-ton chillers and two 2000-Kilowatt diesel generators that will support the entire campus.
Phase III - Special Needs Unit: 120,000 sq. ft., three-level precast and steel structure for housing inmates who require special care. The building also contains an infirmary and additional cell block housing.
Phase IV - Dietary Renovation: Transformed existing kitchen and dining hall. New kitchen facility can support approximately 1000 inmates and staff.
