History

Merit's start-up in 1974 brought together two family names well-known in the Iowa construction industry—Rinderknecht and Voightman.

In that year, a group of stockholders from Rinderknecht Associates, Inc., in Cedar Rapids bought the Voightman Construction Company of Marengo. By 1976 the new business had reorganized as Merit Construction Company, an employee-owned commercial general contractor based in Cedar Rapids and operating throughout Iowa and the midwest.

Merit has been growing steadily ever since, building a broad range of facilities in the Amanas, Burlington, Iowa City and other cities all across the state. We're known for bringing experience and leadership to every building project we undertake. What's more, we deliver quality results as a matter of course—on time and within budget.

In 1992 Merit adopted a new vision and mission focused on total quality management principles and complete customer satisfaction. This commitment has spurred further growth as we've expanded to meet our customers' needs and new building challenges.

Today Merit provides complete management and construction services for projects of all sizes and degrees of complexity.
